Delhi Government’s New Policy To Allow Private Cars To Be Converted Into School Cabs
The Delhi government has prepared a new school cab policy that will allow private cars to be registered as commercial vehicles and ferry schoolchildren after certain alterations, sources said Thursday. Under the policy, the transport department plans to allow the owners of private cars to operate their vehicles as commercial ones by making certain modifications like installing speed governors, and roof carriers to carry bags. The policy shall be placed in the public domain after it is vetted by all departments. Currently, if someone wants to run a cab for school children, they are supposed to buy a new vehicle and register it under the school cab category. Once the new cab policy is in place, a CNG-fuelled private vehicle with a valid fitness certificate can be registered as a commercial one and get a permit for carrying school children.

Karnataka UG, PG Students Can Now Write Exams in Both Kannada and English
The Karnataka Higher Education Council has permitted students in undergraduate and postgraduate courses to write their exams in both Kannada and English mediums. The decision was taken at the council’s 23rd general meeting on December 14. The meeting was presided over by the state’s higher education minister CN Ashwathnarayan. The minister stated that so far students could write answers to question papers in either Kannada or English. However, the new decision will let students write bilingually in their answer sheets. He asserted that the option was already available in polytechnic courses. Furthermore, in accordance with the National Education Policy’s (NEP) goal of promoting higher education in regional languages, it was decided to translate high-quality books into Kannada, said the minister. He went on to say that it was also decided to form a high-level committee to use technology to accomplish this.

TN to promote classical Tamil learning in online mode in a big way
Chennai, The Tamil Nadu government is promoting an online classical Tamil programme aimed at helping learners intepret the language in ancient literary texts. The Central Institute of Classical Tamil will act as the nodal agency for spreading this course. The idea of the programme is to make the learner’s understand on the rich history and culture of Tamil language and to study and interpret the great literature works in Tamil language.
The programme is also aimed to bring in editions of Tamil classics with authenticity and without losing any of its core ideas.
The Central government has already sanctioned Rs 41.97 crore for the development of the programme. The money, according to a senior official, would be utilised to spread the education of ancient Tamil language online both within the country and outside.
The state government has also allocated funds to the Central Institute of Classical Tamil to set up a computerised Tamil language training laboratory for the benefit of people who don’t know the language.

IIT Madras hosts 23rd Congress of the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research
The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT) Madras is hosting the 23rd Congress of the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research – Asia and Pacific Division (IAHR-APD 2022) from December 14 to 17, 2022. It is jointly being organised by the Departments of Ocean Engineering and Civil Engineering. The congress brought together over 30 global experts to work towards conservation and mitigation and cope with the climate change effects on water resources.

3 year UG courses won’t be discontinued till 4-year fully implemented: UGC chief
Three-year undergraduate courses will not be discontinued till the four-year programme is fully implemented, and under the new pattern, graduates can directly join Ph.D programmes, University Grants Commission Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar said. The new credit and curriculum framework for undergraduate (UG) courses was announced earlier this week and it defines Honours degree courses as a four-year programme. However, Kumar clarified that varsities can choose between the three and four year programmes. “It is left to the universities,” he said in an interview with PTI on Wednesday. He was asked whether it is mandatory for universities to migrate to the check here four-year pattern for Honours degrees.

IIT Delhi, University Of Helsinki Agree For Academic Cooperation, Joint Research
he Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and University of Helsinki (UH) have signed an agreement for academic cooperation and joint research. Both the institutes will exchange on a reciprocal basis, faculty and students for limited period of time for the purpose of education and research, jointly supervise students and postdocs, and cooperate in planning, constructing, and operating research infrastructures, particularly the Atmospheric Observatory located on the IIT Delhi’s Sonipat campus, an IIT Delhi statement said. The agreement was signed by Professor Naveen Garg, Dean, International Programmes, IIT Delhi; Professor Somnath Baidya Roy, Head, Centre for Atmospheric Sciences, IIT Delhi; and Professor Sasu Tarkoma, Dean, Faculty of Science, University of Helsinki.
